EGFC and the Abusers @ Big V's 2/23

EGFC took the place of Degeneration

Abusers/EGFC show was a great time. Scabs were pretty decent as well. Always fun to see the snow suits and Hamm's beer hats that make up the Abusers. Was very glad I got to see EGFC. You know the show was not planned when they had me picking out songs for them to play. And I also hope there are no pictures of me doing the rock and roll pose with the bass player. Yikes.

Undertow Orchestra @ First Ave 2/19

I'm enamored with Vic Chesnutt and the fact that they closed with one of his tunes made me the happiest I could be at that show. He played the song 'Iraq' which I adore. Honestly I liked it better when it was just he and guitar at the Turf, but the song still sounded wonderful tonight. And I will same I don't have the hugest knowledge of Mark Eitzel and AMC, but I really dig his voice and his songs had a very good range which I enjoyed immensly. Also the songs of Will Johnson really make me want to check out Centro-Matic. I've noticed that I missed quite a few shows over the last year or so but hopefully can catch them next time.

Ouija Radio @ The Nomad 2/17

I caught two bands at the show. The first was Screaming Cyn Cyn and the Pons. A Madison band with a great stage show that keeps the audience into it at all times. I met the singer and thought he was a very cool guy. Will be seeing them again on March 3rd.

Ouija Radio is always a fun show. With Christy doing keyboards and guitar now the rock hasn't slowed one bit. There was drum solos and bass passing, all in all a great evening.

Black Strap 2/16

Black Strap show was just what I needed. Hard rockin, very fast and very short. Songs about drinkin and tractor pulls. Good drinkin, good people, good times. And if anyone likes Surf Rock, even just a little bit, should check out the Awkwards they definitely do it right.

Faggot, Black Market Fetus and Impaler

2/13 @ the Triple Rock:

Very awesome night of metal mayhem. I know that was cheesy as shit but I had a great time at this show. Faggot always puts on a great show and is entertaining as hell. I think Tim is a great guy, fun to dance with. And the shot of Rumpleminze didn't hurt! Next up was Des Moines band Black Market Fetus. Pretty stellar, and definitely worked for the sound of the evening. Finally was Impaler. Bringing the rock for the past 20 years in Mpls and they never fail. Yes I did end up with fake blood on my face and hands, and I'm ok with that.

2/3 and 2/4

Friday:

Chooglin and the Mistreaters at the Triple Rock. What can I say? I love me some Chooglin'.

Saturday:

Six Six Crush, The Bullets and Like Hell at the Uptown bar. As always Six Six Crush ruled. The Bullets are a pretty good band, fast, but far from original. LikeHell, was pretty much was that, Hell. When they started meowing I almost puked. At that was followed up by a La Bamba cover.

Turf Club 2/2

Got there about halfway through Chambermaids. First time seeing these guys and was pretty impressed. A little Pixies like but I dug the vocals and very strong bass sound.

As always, Maps of Norway and Divebomb Honey rocked the place. I couldn't rock out purely because I could barely stand due to lack of sleep but I still had a very good time. Maps of Norway is finishing up their single so I hope to hear some local radio play soon. Great band, should have a bigger draw. In time, it will happen.

The Abuser's 2/1

"Punk Rock Wednesday" as they call it at Club Underground. The Spring St Bar and Grill. Tonight featured the musical stylings of The Abusers. These guys are hilarious but their rock is fast in an almost Zeke manner. Two in their snowmobile suits and one in his silk pajamas, they fired through a great set of tunes last night. Plus there was quite an impressive showing for a Wednesday night in NE mpls.

Before the Abusers I caught a band called The Ugly Fat Kids. A little too Emo punk for me but they had their own following there. Could have been worse. Could have been that band that covered EMF on Saturday. Sheesh
